About us

The Astronomical Society of France (SAF) is an association in the public interest organized under French law (known as " la loi du 1er juillet 1901"). Founded by Camille Flammarion in 1887, its purpose is to popularize the sciences of the universe, to involve as many people as possible in their progress, and to promote the development and practice of astronomy. SAF is a non-profit organization, recognized by the French government as a national association for the public utility. It is approved as a national association for youth and popular education.
